nicedragonsfinishlast: Tyler Posey as Julius Heartstriker (Kidlet: Nervous)
Julius had spent all of yesterday hiding in this weird room of his. It was not the new bedroom he had been moved into, now that J-clutch had been deemed old enough to move out of the Hatchery and into their own rooms. It wasn't even any room he'd recognized in Heartstriker Mountain. And when he'd looked out the window, it hadn't looked like anywhere in New Mexico. And so Julius had done what Julius did best: he'd hidden and waited to see what was going to happen next.

The answer had been nothing and, honestly, that had been one of the nicest days he'd had.

This morning, however, he was very, very hungry. He was pretty sure he could eat a whole elephant! Not that he'd ever eaten an elephant. But he'd seen his mother eat one, though! It had been messy but she'd been very pleased with herself and had spent the whole next week being very nice to everyone, even the human servants.

Julius sometimes wished they lived near lots of elephants for her to eat.

But since he didn't have an elephant to eat for his mother, never mind one of his own, it was probably time to try to explore a little and find something. He opened the door and peeked out of it, seeing long stretches of hallway on both sides.

Definitely not the Mountain. Unless he was in one of the servants' wings? But why would he be there?

Maybe he should go back into the room and ponder that for a little while. He could try to eat later.

[Open! And sorry for the late! I spent much of yesterday sleeping after a nasty fall. Walking is hard, yo.]

Julius had successfully avoided his siblings. It had been a bit harrowing to have Chelsie confirmed as Chelsie on the radio, but he hadn't seen fang nor scale of any Heartstrikers yesterday (what with the hiding in the dorms and all) or heard about them on the radio. Maybe they'd only come for one day? Bob was kinda crazy and did stuff for no reason all the time. He'd probably just looped Justin (Justin?!) and Chelsie into one of his weird schemes by being all 'Brohomir the Great Seer demands it!' at them and then showed up just to mess with him.

Or something.

...Look, all the other reasons he could think of ended with 'and then [insert sibling name] killed me,' so he was just going to cling very hard to the possibility it was this one.

And, in the spirit of that last desperate hope, Julius had headed out to JGOB to get himself a bear claw or something. Stress made him crave sugar. He wasn't going to press his luck by hanging out in town or anything, but a quick stop in to get a treat and then right back to the dorms? Should be safe, right?

He'd gotten maybe a yard away from the shop when the hairs on the back of his neck begin to prickle. Julius looked over his shoulder, eyes darting to find who was watching him, but the street was deserted. He took another few steps while he focused on his nose. He'd always been better at smelling than listening, but no matter how deeply he breathed, he caught nothing out of the ordinary. Just the sugary smell of the bear claw in his right hand, the scent of raw dough and the tang of sauce from Pizza Planet and the fresh scent in the air he was coming to recognize as 'autumn' on the East Coast. Focusing deeper, he could catch other things - the salt of the sea, the smell of fresh hay from The Gig--just the usual smells of Fandom Island.

He shook his head with a sigh, trying and failing to stomp down on the instinctual urge to run for cover. But then, why should his body calm down? Between his mother, Bob's cryptic conversation on Friday, three of his siblings being here, and a countdown to doom hanging over his head with no real way to see the timer, he had enough stress to last a lifetime. A little jumpiness was a perfectly natural reaction. It didn't mean there was actually someone sneaking up behind--

A hand grabbed his shoulder.

Julius nearly jumped out of his skin, but the hand kept him in place, four knife-sharp nails pressing into the tender hollow just beneath his collar bone as a cold, soft, female voice whispered in his ear.

"Hello, brother."

And that was when Julius knew for a fact that he was dead.

[Open to anyone who wants to get here after Chelsie vanishes!]
nicedragonsfinishlast: Tyler Posey as Julius Heartstriker (Worried)
Since I spent all summer flailing (and failing!) and there are new folks in game (hiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!!), I figured I should repost both Julius and Larceny's infoposts so people know what's what about my on-island weirdos.

Because I am just perpetually late with these (this part is also c/p'd thus proving my point).

So hi! Meet Julius! Julius Heartstriker, for all that he will tell you his last name is Quetz!

'Short for Quetzalcoatl.' 'You shortened your last name?!' Was that not something humans did? )

Tl;dr version:
*Is a dragon, but won't be dragoning any time soon since his mom sealed away his true form
*Is a terrible dragon because he's so nice
*Has a lot of issues, mostly stemming around being the family punching bag (due to aforementioned niceness)
*When first meeting him, odds are people will notice either his impossibly green eyes or the really nasty curse.
*Is coming in at the very beginning of canon, which I will be bending and shaping to suit my whims
*Is from 2097 from a world much like ours that took a sharp turn in 2035 when a comet hit Canada and cracked the seal damming Earth's magic for the last thousand years. After 2020, I'm all for this magic comet.

And now, Larceny!

So, Larceny! She is from the Korean drama, Legend of the Blue Sea, an absolutely delightful show that's basically "What if Korea remade Leverage but as a romance and with mermaids?" And, as a show, it is much better than their actual remake of Leverage, which was a whole-ass disappointment.

This info post not SOLELY an excuse for gifs I swear )

One last thing, included outside of the cut because it's important: right now, she's hiding the fact that she is a mermaid. I'm willing to have people discover her secret, but seeing her as a mermaid will require a bit of OOC negotiation and a willingness for memory editing, at least for the next few months. But it's definitely something I would love to play around with, so I'm game if you are!
nicedragonsfinishlast: A blue Bearded Dragon (Animal: Lizard)
There had been a blue-bearded dragon living in Room 320 for almost the whole summer. Who knew why this day the island has decided that enough was enough, but it did. And where there was a lizard scuttling around searching for a beetle, there was suddenly a very confused, very naked boy on the floor, unsure where he was or how he'd gotten there.

"I am so tired of being locked in forms that aren't my own!" he yelled to...the aether maybe? Before realizing he was naked and scrambling for something to wear.

"What day is it?"

...Not as important as what month, boyo.

nicedragonsfinishlast: Tyler Posey as Julius Heartstriker (Sleeping)
After the...everything...that had been Julius' Saturday, he'd finally made his way up to his room and crashed out on the first bed he'd seen. He didn't have pajamas, so he'd climbed into bed fully dressed so he didn't accidentally offend Freya, kicking off only his socks and shoes before crashing out right on the mattress.

His sleep was deep and thankfully dreamless, but rudely interrupted by a ringing phone. He groped for it, hitting the accept button on sleepy autopilot. "H'lo?" he mumbled.

"Well," crooned the sweet, familiar, smoky voice that never failed to tie his insides in knots. "If it isn't my most ungrateful child."

Julius, instantly awake now, closed his eyes with a silent sigh. Hello, Mother. )

The call cut out right after that, but it took Julius a full thirty seconds to unclench his fingers enough to set the phone down safely on the mattress. And then he just laid there, on the bed, just breathing. The summer. He had just a few months to figure out how to do something 'draconic' enough for Bethesda's liking. Too bad everything he could think of left him cold, regardless of whether they were even feasible.

Ugh. He should get up. Shower. Find something to eat. Buy new clothes. Anything that wasn't lying here, moping.

...In a minute.

Julius was still barefoot when he exited his mother's plane. Or, well, it was a private plane but not, he realized belatedly, one of his mother's. It took him a moment to realize why, until he looked up and saw the sign above his head. It bore the logo of a giant cresting wave next to the words Welcome to the Detroit Free Zone Airport.

His stomach fell. The DFZ? )

"J! J! I'm down!"
"Quick, where's the healer?!"
"MEDIC!!!"
"Where the fuck is HealStryker?!?"

Julius Heartstriker, youngest member of the illustrious (or infamous, depending on your point of view; Julius was loyal to his family on pain of death, so illustrious it was) Heartstriker clan, spammed another heal into one his guildmates, narrowly avoiding an attack from the enemy as the newly-healed tank deflected the oversized axe before it sank into the back of Julius' skull. It was close enough that the hairs on his neck swished from the movement of the air, but he didn't let that stop him. He left his guildmate squaring up to defeat the enemy, casting a look over the field. So many of their people were down, but his mass-heal had just finished cooldown and with one of those and backpacking a couple of their highest level guildmates, they might just pull a victory out of this yet--

Or you know. Maybe not. )

***

He awoke on his mother's private jet, his entire body aching like he'd just gone six rounds with Justin before being bounced down the mountain for fun. He was in human form, which he didn't remember resuming, still wearing the same outfit he'd been when she'd burst into his room - though his jeans were now singed and his ancient green t-shirt far the worse for wear. He had no phone, no wallet, not even shoes but he was apparently going - somewhere?

He could worry about his destination later. Right now, he had much bigger game to roast - like figuring out exactly what his mother had done to him.

It was distressingly easy to figure out, however, once he managed to clear his head. He could feel it, a malignant knot of magic, right around the base of his. Not all of his magic, no. Just the bit of it that controlled his ability to take his proper form.

She'd sealed him, trapped him in this too-skinny mortal body, and locked his draconic form away.
